This mission is a bit unique because it has none of the Mursaats we've been experiencing in the recent missions, and instead includes Titans. Also, the final boss of the campaign is located at the end of this mission, which can be a bit lackluster. This missions is often considered the easiest of the last four missions of the campaign.
Mission
This mission is broken up into four sections: 1) Running or Fighting through Titans, 2) Killing Portal Wraiths, 3) Killing Undead Prince Rurik, 4) Killing Undead Lich.
Meteors can randomly hit you at different places of the mission, dealing ~30 damage and causing knock down.
Running Through Titans
It is possible to have a spawn where you can completely avoid the first group of 1x Burning Titan & 1x Risen Ashen Hulk. The second group can usually be avoided by going down towards the bridge where the Lich spawn.
Then, there are two routes that can be taken when running this starting section. It is much more common to run the right route because you get ahead of many of the Sparks of the Titans that would eventually path and linger within this running route if you instead took the left route.
The left route, over the bridge, has the following spawns:
- Either 3x Spark of the Titans OR 2x Spark of the Titans & 1x Risen Ashen Hulk (pop up) just over the bridge
- 2x Spark of the Titans and 2x Burning Titan just over the next bridge.
- A swarm of Spark of the Titans, which can be avoided by triggering them and then running back and waiting.
- 3x Spark of the Titans and 2x Risen Ashen Hulk, just before the Ancient Seer.
- 1x Burning Titan at the Ancient Seer.
- 3x Spark of the Titans and 2x Risen Ashen Hulk, at the base of the hill.
- 2x Spark of the Titans and 1x Risen Ashen Hulk, at the top of the hill.
- 2x Spark of the Titans and 1x Risen Ashen Hulk, across the bridge.
And the right route, with the following spawns:
- 2x Risen Ashen Hulk & 1x Burning Titan
- 3x Spark of the Titans OR 2x Spark of the Titans & 1x Risen Ashen Hulk (pop up) just before the bridge
- 3x Spark of the Titans OR 2x Spark of the Titans & 1x Risen Ashen Hulk (pop up) just over the bridge
- 2x Risen Ashen Hulk & 1x Burning Titan, just after the boss.
Fighting Through Titans
Even if the intent is to fight through most of the Titans, it's still advisable to bring a running skill since there likely going to be enemies that you'll want to skip. The Burning Titans break down into three additional enemies and their inherent movement speed is 22%, so the best way to handle them is to merely skip them.
When fighting through this mission, I think the left route is best since it gives you space to backup into. Because we're moving at a slower pace, the last three groups mentioned in the left route will now also be in the right route. Take that into consideration when determining which route you'd like to fight though.
Some notes about the enemy behavior:
- Sparks of the Titans will only use Rodgort's Invocation if your health is below 25%.
- Similar to the Ice Imps, if you manage to put the Spark of the Titans in a spot in which they can attack you but are out of cast range, they should remain there. This technique reduces greatly their damage (they will only auto attack), and allows you to chose when to go in and out. Warning that this behavior is not true for all Spark of the Titans, some might decide to come closer but most of them will stay at distance.
- At 79 energy and above, the Spark of the Titans will not use Mind Burn since the secondary effect won't trigger. This same behavior is observed in Ice Imps and their Mind Freeze
- Dealing damage to Burning Titans and Risen Ashen Hulks at melee range (through spells or attacks) sets you on fire for 3 seconds.
- Burning Titans and Risen Ashen Hulks have a natural +4 health regen.
- All Titans deal fire damage with their attacks, so it is highly recommended to use a shield vs elemental or fire damage. Mantra of Flame is also great for energy and resistance, but it can be removed by the Burning Titan's Wild blow. You will still suffer from some physical damage (hundred blades and minions attacks).
- All Titans and Sparks move 22% faster.
- Minions can have a weird behavior, detecting you even though you did not enter their or their owner's aggro range
Portal Wraiths
The two groups of Portal Wraiths on the edges should be killed from behind their respective locations. The group in the middle is typically killed from the southern section. Each of the three Portal Wraiths can be pulled separately. Once all nine of the Portal Wraiths are dead, a cutscene will trigger and you'll be moved to a safe area.
Of note, the area around the portals will get more and more crowded with enemies, but the spawns stop at some point.
Some notes about enemy behavior:
- Of the three offensive skills on the Portal Wraiths, two are only used on Martial Weapon holders (Enervating Charge & Eruption), so it's recommended to fight them with a caster weapon if possible.
Undead Prince Rurik
The two Sparks of the Titans with Undead Prince Rurik are the biggest threat in this section. Once they're handled, you can decide to kill the two groups of 4x Fist of the Titans if you want, but they aren't necessary. Undead Prince Rurik is unique in that he doesn't have natural resistance and has a +5 health regen.
You can also choose to kill Rurik first, either at leash range or by using melee glitching.
Undead Lich
The Undead Lich has barely any armor. Using a caster weapon and auto attacking it will hit for up to 40 damage. If you stand at the top of the stairs, at casting range, the only skills the Undead Lich will use is Strip Enchantment, if you're enchanted, and Soul Vortex. If you get closer, take care of its auto-attack that can deal more than 200 damage each.
Note about Soul Vortex:
- Purple floating bubbles are not that dangerous if you killed the Fist/Hand of the Titans: they will teleport you inside the lava, far from the Lich. For them to teleport you, they need to successfully hit you with a "virtual" attack that deals no damage but can be blocked as any other attack.
- Purple floating bubbles cannot be targeted but can be killed with AoE damage.
- When a purple floating bubble dies (either because it lasted its entire duration, because you killed it or because it teleported you), the skill Soul Vortex get disabled.
The Lich can die up to three times in total. It's recommended to kill the 2x Fist of the Titans before engaging the Undead Lich. With each revival of the Undead Lich, 2x (Fist or Hand) of the Titans will respawn.
The Wastrel's Worry Method
If you're fighting this boss with Wastrel's Worry, you can merely stand at the top of the stairs and rotate between wanding/staffing once, then casting WW once. He'll eventually cast Soul Vortex, which spawns a purple floating bubble. Disengage the moment this skill is casted and wait for the purple floating bubble to disappear. Then re-engage immediately.
Bonus
The bonus will require you to save the Seer and kill 3 additional enemies (3 Armageddon Lords). Saving the Seer is the hardest thing to do, since you will need to kill a group of 3x Sparks of the Titans & 2x Risen Ashen Hulks initially located north of the Seer before it gets to the Seer and a Burning Titan (and its spawns) before it kills the Seer.
- Because you need to kill the first group mentioned above (3x Sparks of the Titans & 2x Risen Ashen Hulks), we usually kill all the Titans up to this group as well.
- Sometimes, the spawn of the first group to kill is so bad that you arrive too late to save the Seer. In this case, you will need to restart the mission.
- To kill the first group, you can have the Sparks of the Titans attacking you at longbow range (see notes about the enemy behavior above) and LoS the Sparks, so that you can “safely” deal with the Risen Ashen Hulks first.
- The Burning Titan close to the Seer will start attacking the Seer once you get close from the Seer (at a distance about twice the aggro range big).
- The Seer has high armor and high HP. But since it attacks the Burning Titan, it is set on fire when the latter is at melee range, which reduces the time the Seer can survive. For this reason, having the Burning Titan (and its spawns) attacking you greatly increases the chances of success.
- Once the Seer is saved, talk to him and proceed to the area where Portal Wraiths are. Be cautious: the Seer needs to survive for the bonus to be completed, even though it already told you to destroy the Armageddon Lords. For this reason, you can choose to go back and take the “right route” (West) instead of going straight South of the Seer and risking aggroing new enemies on the Seer.
- Armageddon Lords are even faster than other Titans. They only deal damage at melee range, don’t have natural resistance, and have a natural health regen > +3 (most likely +4).
- Be cautious of the multiple enemies that spawn inside the lava around the Armageddon Lords. The spawns ends at some point and it is possible to clear the whole area.
